The football match

On Wednesday the 6th of December 2017 was RAK Acadeny Secondary’s first football math for the under 12’s. At 1:40 Miss Hawksworth’ myself and the football team made our way to Sharjah. The school that we played at was called AIS, which stands for Austrailiasn International School. When the team and I arrived at AIS we immediately started the warm up and practiced shooting, because of course the goal keeper had to practice as well (which is me ). After our warm up we had about 10 minutes to stretch and  discuss our plan to beat the other schools. When we were finished our discussion, one of the AIS coaches came to tell us what schools will we be playing against and of course our first game was against BC, which brought back a lot of memories that we had when we played for BC last year, but we couldn’t let them win because if we did, miss Hawksworth would be fuming with us. We couldn’t let her or the school down.

I, as the goalkeeper was so nervous about this match because if you are goalie then everyone kind of relies on you not to let the other team score. That was very stressful, but I managed to stay calm. Half way into the match we already scored one spectacular goal, scored by one of our shooters, Youstina Milad. This was amazing because we all knew that we were in the lead by one point only, but it still counts. Not even five minutes later we had another goal scored by one our mid fielders Habiba Soi. We were still in the lead, but now by two points! We were all cheering until one of the midfielders in BC ran right through our midfielders. They were on their way to score a goal but one of my amazing defenders Ghalya, jumped right in front of me and kick the ball so hard it nearly went inside the goal, which I personally thought was outstanding. When the first whistle blew it was half time so we quickly got into a huddle and started to talk, not really focusing on scoring any more goals but to make sure that BC doesn’t.

When half time was over we gave all we got and 20 minutes later the 2nd whistle went, which meant that the game was over and that we have just beaten one of the most challenging teams that we competed against.

Before we knew it, it was time for our second game against Westgreen. Me and the team were a bit panicy because we saw that some of the players were extremely tall but afterall it isn’t the size that matters it is the skill and teamwork that actually count and we knew we would just try our best at beating this school.

The first half of the game was nice and easy going but when that second whistle blew for the second round both schools stepped up their game and 5 minutes into the second round we scored a goal that was scored by Maryam. Short after that we had another goal that was scored by Maryam. I must say the second round was absolutely terrifying and if it wasn’t for two of my best defenders especially Noor who really stepped up her game in both rounds for that matter, the game could have turned.

At the end of the game we were both gob smacked and proud that we just won two of our first football matches. When the team and Igot onto the bus and stuffed our faces with junk food Miss Hawsworth told us some exiting news that who was the woman of the match. And the woman of the match was… ( drumroll please) Nour Sherif! We all congratulated her for being the woman of the match but we were all not surprised that she got it because she was outstanding! Everyone was amazing. That was definitely a match that I would never forget!
